Elon Musk is spending millions of dollars running ads that push Americans to a website called VoteSafe.org to check whether they are registered to vote, and that site collects your full name, your date of birth, your home address, your email, your cell phone number, your IP address, your device details, and a record of every page you open and every link you click.The site is funded and operated by America PAC, the super PAC Musk founded. Snopes verified both the funding and the data collection this week.

Judd Legum broke the details at Popular Information on September 8. The list of what VoteSafe.org captures runs long: first, middle, and last name, date of birth, full home address, email address, cell number, IP address and location, your browser, your operating system, your screen size, the language your device is set to, which website sent you there, every link you click, every page you view, your voter registration status, and your district and ballot.

Compare that to vote.gov, which is the actual federal voter site run by the Election Assistance Commission. Vote.gov points you to your own state’s election office and, per its privacy policy, collects no personally identifiable information at all. It is free, it is official, and it wants nothing from you.

The timing on VoteSafe.org is what makes this worth paying attention to. The site used to carry a specific promise in its privacy policy: information collected through VoteSafe.org would only be used to support America PAC’s activities and would not be shared with advertisers, political organizations, or any third party not directly affiliated with America PAC. On August 29, 2026, that language was removed. The replacement policy allows America PAC to share or sell your personal information with its business partners for targeted marketing where the law permits it.
